Mami Dan Temple,Toligbé, Benin
Located in Toligbe, Benin, the Mami Dan Temple was designed by renowned Beninese architecture studio Maison Bignon sousu, with Hive Earth commissioned to deliver the rammed earth construction for the project.
The space explores the contrast between texture, light and materiality through the use of exposed earth walls against soft white rendered interiors. Our scope focused on the construction of the round rammed earth walls, carefully executed to create a sense of rhythm, enclosure and calm throughout the space.
Working closely with the architectural vision of the project, the earth walls were designed to feel both monumental and grounded, celebrating the natural tones, layers and tactile qualities of the material while complementing the minimal interior palette.
The project reflects a shared approach to traditional African architecture, where traditional materials are reinterpreted through modern design, craftsmanship and spatial experience.
